We are a new private International School located in Jericho, Ibadan; offering the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum to infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers (up to age five)

We seek a qualified and experienced Head Teacher to run our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum.

Reports to: Head of Operations

Job Purpose:

The Head Teacher will be responsible for the coordination and planning of the curriculum for 0-5 year olds. As the Head Teacher, you will possess a comprehensive understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and demonstrate thorough knowledge and application of developmentally appropriate school readiness practice.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Arts, Science or Education in Early Childhood Education or related field required. Masters in Early Childhood Education or a Montessori qualification is an advantage
  • Minimum of five years experience as a Head Teacher is essential. Applicants should be able to demonstrate recent and relevant experience of proven exemplary classroom practice in a primary school with substantial experience in the EYFS
  • Additional preferred enhancing credentials:  Knowledge and understanding of the EYFS curriculum
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Skills in documentation and record-keeping
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.

Experience:
  • Observing and evaluating teaching and giving feedback to a teacher is desirable.
  •  Monitoring and evaluation of learning and teaching leading to effective planning to raise standards.
 Knowledge: 
  • Manage the performance of the teaching staff
  • Organise professional development activities for the EYFS and issues relating
  •  Inspire, lead and motivate the children and staff to influence the quality of learning and teaching and initiate change.

Curriculum Support:

To raise achievement and outcomes of pupils by:

  • Having a detailed and thorough knowledge of the Early Years Curriculum in order to support staff. Coordinating and overseeing developmentally appropriate, child-centered curriculum and assessment planning, implementation, and documentation. Spending time in each classroom supporting teachers; ensure positive engagement with children is occurring at all times. Attend and help teachers prepare for orientation meetings, and other parent meetings as needed
  •  Having a detailed and thorough knowledge of Early Years Assessment procedures and guidance, in order to support staff
  • Being a role model for subject leadership, supporting other staff in their role as Subject Leaders, sharing best practise
  • Leading a key area of the curriculum (to be agreed) across the school
Key Responsibilities of the Early Years Head Teacher:

1. Support the Head of Operations in the effective and efficient running of the Early Years team, embracing the schools ethos, values and aims

2.  Be an outstanding teacher and lead within the Early Years Team, creating an engaging curriculum and actively engaging parents in the life of the school

4. Be responsible for the effective and efficient running of the Early Years teaching team, curriculum plan. Responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day delivery of child care services in classrooms, ensuring quality and continuity of care in the classrooms at all times. Ensuring all children’s physical, cognitive, and emotional needs are met. Planning parent consultations, information events, new parent meetings etc

5. Through effective observation, assessment and planning, the Head Teacher ensures excellent progress for children across all areas of development, whilst ensuring all assessments (internal and external) are completed on time and accurately

6. Collecting information about classrooms and teachers through formal and informal observations using a variety of evaluation methods and tools. Meeting with teachers individually and in groups to provide feedback, set professional development goals and evaluate progress on an ongoing basis. Conduct annual staff performance reviews. Assist in planning, developing, scheduling, and providing professional development opportunities utilizing in-house and/or external resources.

7. Coordinate and oversee all aspects of classroom operations in all levels. Train, coach, and mentor staff, providing tools and resources to ensure best practices are implemented consistently. Model high quality work, and demonstrate and promote ongoing reflection and growth. Hold regular Head Teacher meetings and manage work-time schedules of team.

8. Ensuring the learning environments (indoor and outdoor) and provision in EYFS are of the highest quality.

9. Conduct observations and review, analyze, and evaluate child outcome data; make recommendations for continuous quality improvement; keeping up to date with changes in the curriculum and developments in best practice

10. Providing curriculum reports, assessment reports and year group reviews to the Head of Operations and the management

11. Required to take leadership and ensure effective and efficient running of the school in the absence of the Head of Operations

12. Ensuring that the teaching team work together effectively and efficiently by providing excellent    organisational ability, leadership and management skills.
